listen!

Library Directors Kathy Swetish of the Whelden Memorial Library in West Barnstable and Lucy Loomis of the Sturgis Library in Barnstable Village talked with Mindy Todd of WCAI's The Point on Monday, March 10th about the One Book One Barnstable series. You can listen to the recorded show here.

ready, set, read!

The village libraries of Barnstable are now distributing copies of the books in the One Book One Barnstable series. We have numerous copies that you can check out through the CLAMS system. There are copies that you can take and pass on to someone else when you're done. We'll be leaving books around town for readers to stumble upon. So read one book in the series or read them all! Get your family and friends involved. Attend one of the programs held at the seven village libraries. The calendar is updated regularly as more programs are added, so check back often! For questions and more information, contact your village library.

Welcome

Welcome to the home of One Book One Barnstable, a cooperative reading adventure sponsored by the seven village libraries of Barnstable, Massachusetts. Join us as we read about & discuss the rich cultural heritage of the people of Cape Cod. We'll celebrate Cape Cod’s diverse population, from Native Americans & Puritans to wash-ashores from around the country & immigrants from around the world. Each of us brings our unique culture and perspective to this special place.

We look forward to presenting a six-month series of programs and events centered around the reading and sharing of one book for each reading level. The three titles we've chosen are pictured on the right panel of this page, as well as links to the authors, the libraries, a calendar of events, and other interesting sites.

Programs and events will include book discussion groups, storytelling, history and maritime programs, music, genealogy workshops, gala food events, author talks, children’s activities, a historic hike, and more! There's definitely something for everyone.

Check back with often as we update our calendar of events and give you an opportunity to share your thoughts about the books and programs.

This program is funded in part by grants from the CitiGroup Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
